Pros and Cons for Brazilian Bikini Waxes

bikinilineAlmost all women struggle with the issue of unwanted body hair. From puberty on we may fluctuate and experiment with the many options available for hair removal. The drugstore keeps a wide variety of lady’s razors, depilatories, waxes and lotions as weapons in our life long war against all the regions of our body that stubbornly sprout hair where we have decided it does not belong. The most humble tool, the razor, is perhaps the most expedient way to deal with under-arms and legs for those of us who don’t want to spend a lot of time and money on this beauty ritual. However, much more thought and expertise goes into handling the bikini area.

“Bikini area” sounds so much more glamorous than the vulgar “genital hair growth”, even if the latter is more concise. Many of the products we can easily use on other areas of our body are inappropriate and painful for use on this sensitive region. For this reason, Brazilian bikini waxes are most preferred among methods used to accomplish the task.
Brazilian bikini waxes have many benefits when compared to other methods of removing hair. Perhaps the most important of these is the completeness of the removal. The hair is removed starting at the top of the panty-line area all the way to the tail-bone, including everything in between. Since a professional performs the wax, every area we can’t see or reach comfortably is taken care of. The results of a Brazilian bikini wax usually last between three and six weeks which is much longer than the results of shaving which last about a week. These lasting results are accompanied by the conspicuous lack of shaving bumps, leaving soft smooth skin. The Brazilian method also, helps to prevent the occurrence of ingrown hairs which cause irritation and itching.

With all the advantages of Brazilian bikini waxes, there are significant reasons why it is not the most popular method of hair removal. First off, the reason this type of waxing affords such complete coverage is that someone else performs the procedure. This makes for an intimate and potentially embarrassing position. In order to be effective, a stranger has to scrutinize and handle the genitalia. Many women have a hard enough time exposing themselves for a necessary annual check-up. For some, this intimate invasion is too high a price to pay for beauty.

The monetary price may be a hindrance to choosing this method, as well. The average cost for a Brazilian bikini wax is $50 or more. For many women, it’s worth every penny. For others, a $1 bag of razors from the dollar store, a hot shower and some shaving cream will suffice. The pain resulting from a Brazilian wax is considerable, although there are some topical anesthetics available to help mitigate it. Tight clothing should be avoided for some time after the waxing.  Finally, there is a recovery time. This wax causes the pores of this rarely exposed area to be much more open than before the procedure. It is recommended that women abstain from oral sex, hot baths and showers until 24 hours after receiving the waxing. This is to reduce the risk of infection.

Deciding to have a Brazilian bikini wax is not one to be made lightly. For many women, the disadvantages are far outweighed by the benefits. A tropical vacation or wedding night may be enough inspiration to take on the pain and discomfort. The income and careers of women in the adult entertainment industry are definitely benefitted by this method. For these women, the cost and uncomfortable moments are a small sacrifice. Still, many more of us would rather suffer through the age old fight with our traditional and relatively inexpensive weapons.
